Sage Tea and Hot Flashes

by Doris
(Wills Point, Texas)

After taking hormones for the better part of 20 years I finally decided enough. I stopped them and WOW the hot flashes were as bad as they were 20 years ago. I had read more than once about drinking sage tea for relief but never tried it nor did I really believe it would work. WELL, they were so bad I decided anything was worth trying, so off to the health store I went. The article I read suggested drinking two or three cups a day so I thought ok here goes. WELL much to my surprise I did sleep better and noticed a big difference in the severity of the miserable flashes. I drank at least three cups in the beginning and settled down to two cups a day unless I was experiencing a lot then I would increase to three or even more cups a day if necessary. I was VERY surprised the tea worked but it has helped me a LOT.

I must say it does not taste really well until one gets used to the flavor, but now it seems like any other hot tea. I have even iced it down and mixed it with different drinks.

I hope it works for others as well as it worked for me.

hope it works!

Like Doris, I've been taking hormones for many years and finally decided to stop, and sure enough, the hot flashes came right back as bad or worse than before. My new nutritionist just recommended drinking sage tea. I just started yesterday so it's too soon to tell, but I sure hope it works. I've tried a lot of other herbal therapies with no relief.

Sage Tea -vs- Hot Flushes
by: Sass

Hi Ladies, I'm only in the first stages of menopause, age 49. Having suffered horrendous migraines since age 23 I've been looking forward to the menopause but now that's not right either as I'm getting very sleepless nights and embarrassing days at work with hot flushes.

But happily not so much any more as I'm drinking sage tea, small sips thru the day and evening. This really helps me in that although I'm still getting warm, this is much less frequent/ severe now, not disturbing and is quite bearable. I can get a good night's sleep again.

But I do wonder what a good sage dosage should be, and am a bit concerned at over doing it. Appreciate other comments please.

Cheers, Sally (Dorset)

How long do women have hot flashes? When do they start and when do they end?

Mix Sage with Dandellion

Instead of 2-3 cups daily, I drink a large cup of sage + dandelion before I go to bed. It does help greatly.

Hot Flushes
by: Heike

I suffered hot flushes during the day and had night sweats. It got so bad I had two changes of nighties next to me every night. I read on the internet that sage had been researched and there was enough evidence that I gave it a try. I drank two cups every night and it took about two weeks before I felt any benefit. But since then it has cured my hot flushes and night sweats 100%. I just don't have any.

But now I heard that because it is a medicinal herb you shouldn't have it regularly. I don't want to give it up, but I would like to know if there can be harm if you have two cups a day for two years or so?

Just Started Sage
by: Anonymous

I started a sage herb today advertised to help with hot flashes and night sweats. I had a hysterectomy and had my ovaries removed four weeks ago, and the doctor is encouraging me to avoid the HRT. The hot flashes are severe! I'm to take one sage table twice a day, but the herbalist said to start with two twice a day for the first week. She said there aren't any side effects but I'm going to research more to make certain. I'm going to try the sage tea too.

Sage and Yogurt
by: carol

Hi,

I eat every day 2 tsp of dried sage with yogurt, it's odd but it works for me and flashes.

My age 53, post menopause.

I Agree!
by: Zonulin

I wonder if there are any side effects? I have been drinking sage tea (from pesticide-free sage plants in our backyard) for one week, and I have noticed a definite decrease in my hot flashes! And I'm only waking up with night sweats maybe once or twice a night now (as opposed to...20 times a night before). Yay - sure hope the sage tea continues to help!

Thanks I'll Try It
by: ann

I am 53 and right in the middle of perimenopause and hot flashes. It is just something that I live with. But it is bothersome to never sleep through the night.

I will try the sage tea today. I am looking for something economical and that works. Thanks for the information. I know things work differently on different people.

I notice taking out sugar and wine also help. Sugar I really notice bad flashes. so I am convinced that diet and exercise do play a big role in flashes. thanks again!

Can I Apply This?
by: Tarah

I wonder if it would work as well on PMS symptoms. I just had a baby, and my hormones are wreaking havoc on my face and body. I wonder if it will help with that, too.
