Plantango afra
(plantain family) Psyllium seeds come from the plantain plant, a low-growing annual found in most yards and fields in temperate zones throughout the world. The seeds are the main ingredient in most bulk-forming laxatives and have been used for centuries to treat
diarrhea
, hemorrhoids, constipation and urinary problems. Other uses include treating symptoms of
bronchitis
, pneumonia, Crohn's disease and irritable bowel syndrome. Plantain leaves, aside from being highly nutritious, are also very useful for treating skin problems such as
diaper rash
and
eczema
. An old folk remedy for diaper rash is to pick a handful of plantain leaves, crush them with your hands and place them in baby's diaper until the next changing. It works!
CAUTIONS:
Remember to drink plenty of water throughout the day while taking psyllium to avoid intestinal blockage.
