Genital Warts Symptoms

Genital warts can be easily identified in the genito-urinary regions of both male and female in the form of soft, flesh-colored miniature cauliflower like florets. These warts are caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV 6 and HPV 11) infection. They usually grow in more than one place either in a single form or in clusters. The cauliflower or broccoli shaped warts are normally not painful to the touch but may itch sometime. The apparently innocent looking warts generally appear on the tip or shaft of the penis, in the anal area and in the case of the females, in the vagina, vulva, cervix or the urethra.

Genital warts symptoms also include increased vaginal discharge, abnormal vaginal bleeding after sex act and increased dampness in the growth area. But in some cases, the infection is not accompanied by any symptom at all. In addition, the warts appear and fade away on their own, leaving the infected person in a dilemma whether he or she is actually infected or not.

Genital Warts or Condylomata Acumina or venereal warts are one of the most common types of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) that you will find in the US today. They affect the soft moist tissues of the genital area of both the sexes in the shape of small, flesh-colored bumps having a distinct cauliflower-like appearance. Caused by the HPV virus, genital warts have also been associated with cervical cancer. But unfortunately enough, there is no therapeutic cure for this distressing disease as the virus lurks behind the nerve roots, and flares up only when the immune system is waned by stress, tension or other diseases. However there are a few alternative source of treatment that includes topical application of essential oils, Tea tree extracts and immune building supplements including herbs, vitamins, minerals, etc. Although mostly ignored since the prognosis is hardly fatal, genital warts are a serious health concern and many are trying to fight it in the US.

It is not mandatory for the HPV to be accompanied by signs and symptoms of its own since the mischievous malady often comes alone, save and except some slight itching in the genital area. Even the warts themselves are difficult to diagnose. However, treating the warts with acetic acid solution can detect the true nature of the wart as they will immediately turn white on topical application. Viewing them through a special microscope called Colposcope will reveal the identity of the venereal warts accurately. Incidentally, in women, these warts are often flat shaped, i.e. not elevated and, therefore, not easily visible without special procedure.

Symptoms can be Erroneous

Wrongly diagnosed genital warts can lead to unnecessary medical complications since all bumps are not genital warts, nor are all warts genital in nature. Also relevant to consider in this respect is the fact that secondary syphilis, skin tags and benign tumors on the penis or the scrotum may also look like genital warts.

~ Fordyce spots

~ Pearly penile papules (it appears in 1 out of 3 men)
