Evening Primrose Oil?

by J
(Chicagoland, IL, USA)

Hello -

I've never used herbs before and recently heard of evening primrose oil.

I typically do not have any response to typical medications, so wanting to give this route a try.

I'm looking to use evening primrose oil for the effects on emotions associated with hormones (ie PMS-like stuff...)

So... I'm looking here for suggestions on where to find this, any experiences others have had, any other recommendations, dosage suggestions, etc.

Thanks,

Jamie

Evening Primrose Oil
by: Jolie

Hi Jamie, I recently had my hormones tested to find out that my progesterone levels were too low, which causes PMS in a lot of women but unfortunately hoes undiagnosed, I've just started taking Evening Primrose oil and a naturopathic doctor advised me that I can take 2000-2500mg a day however it may take a month or 2 to feel the results. Another great herb is called Vitex which derives from Chasteberry, its also suppose to help level out your hormones and takes a few months to kick in. I'm currently taking a brand called Flora that makes evening primrose and I just got it at a local health food store, cost around 25$ for a months supply. Hope that helps!

Have Had Excellent Results with EPO
by: Sally

I have had excellent results with evening primrose oil, specifically for PMS symptoms. I use a formulation from Nutrilite that also has borage, chasteberry, and dong quai. This has been HUGE to help me with mood swings and depression symptoms during the second portion of my menstrual cycle.

The amount of EPO in this formulation is 125 mg per soft gel, and it is recommended to take one to four per day. Many times I have taken 6 per day with no ill effects whatsoever. So the dosage for me has been 500-750 mg per day of EPO with the other ingredients.

Here's where I purchased mine - http://tmoran.qhealthzone.com/products/product.aspx?itemno=A8006

Hope that helps! I know how debilitating PMS can be!
