Epsom Salts

by Tarah
(Omaha, NE, USA)

I don't know if Epsom Salts are considered an herbal remedy, but here it goes. Uncle Sonny accidentally put his hand through the table saw. All the bones and tendons were intact, but his hand looked like hamburger. We took him to the emergency room. All they could do was wrap it up and tell him to change the bandages once a day. They couldn't even put stitches on it because there was no skin to stitch up, and they didn't clean the wound.

We mentioned soaking the hand with Epsom salts to the doctor. It's something we always did in our family whenever someone was cut up pretty badly. The doctor backed away, stunned, and said, "NO! Don't do that!"

We decided he should do it, anyway. So, every day, when we were taking off the bandages, he soaked his hand in a bowl of Epsom Salts and hot water. It was about 1/2 cup per gallon of water. His hand healed with no scarring.

When we brought him back to the doctor for his checkup, the doctor couldn't believe how well Uncle Sonny's hand healed. His eyes bugged out of his head. He wanted to take pictures. He rolled his eyes when we told him about the Epsom Salts, and told us that had nothing to do with it.
