Chamomile for Kids
Matricaria recutitaThis is an excellent herb for kids to grow. The small, scented flowers are one of the best overall herbs for children. A tea from this herb will provide relief from teething, digestive upset and colic as well as help soothe a nervous or anxious child. Add an infusion made of the fresh or dried flowers with a bit of lavender and lemon balm to an evening bath to help wash away the cares of the day and soothe the skin. This annual herb is grown easily from seeds sown directly to the garden in early spring. It likes plenty of sun, but doesn't tolerate full mid-day sun in very hot climates where it prefers some shade. It also grows well in containers. Pick flowers often to encourage new blooms. Pinch blooms from stems and dry on a screen in a well-ventilated area. Store dried flowers in airtight containers.
