Alcolado

by Lu
(Woodbury, MN)

Alcolado is rubbing alcohol with bayleaf - you can find it in Mexican grocery stores.

I learned this (and used it - it works every time) from the son of a healer from Puerto Rico.

For fever -

Pour alcolado in a bowl that won't melt. Light it and let it burn for a little while. Blow out the flame and soak a rag in it. Rub it under the neck, under the arms, and between the thighs. Wrap up in a blanket and go to sleep. When you wake up you will be soaked in sweat and the fever will be gone.

Response to Ridding Your Fever
by: Anonymous

If you roll yourself up in a blanket and go to sleep, you will "break the fever" or "sweat it out" by morning. You do not need alcolado with bay leaf to get the result! However, this doesn't mean the cause of the fever is gone.
